Pick, Drill, and Duplication Proof Systems

Strictly speaking, no system is pick, drill, or duplication proof.  Each locking system is designed to open at some point... preferably by the correct key or code but it must be able to open at some point.  This makes the true challenge of manufacturing locking systems to simply slow down whoever is trying to open it without permission.  Even electronic combination safe dials made to protect government classified information can be defeated by simple means, but it takes some time to accomplish.

This time period is necessary for an alarm system to detect and notify a response team and allow that team to reach the location.  Several systems exist in this class and are considered “proof” simply because it takes too much time to break or bypass them.  One particular system, the Schlage Primus keying system was reportedly picked once by a professional after two weeks of constant attempts with custom made tools - she admitted afterward that she simply got lucky and could not repeat her effort.  Medeco’s Biaxial offerings are also quite strong and both of these systems include patented features such as small ball bearings embedded in the design of the lock face that prevent drilling by deflecting the drill bit.

Pyrran Security Systems can provide these keying systems.

Duplication:  A simple bypass technique is to duplicate a key and use the duplicate when the owner isn’t around.  This is a common burglary technique: an accomplice working at an auto garage makes a copy of your house key while changing your oil and records your home address from the car registration in your glove box.  Knowing you, like most people, will be at work the next day during business hours, the thief enters your home with the duplicate key.

Systems like Schlage Primus and Medeco use patented keys that are not made available to Home Depot or Ace Hardware so they cannot easily be duplicated.  They also require special machines to make angled cuts that most duplicating machines cannot reproduce.  In the case of Primus, geographically and individually exclusive key blanks are available directly from Schlage which cannot be duplicated by anyone other than the originating locksmith company.  If you participate in one of these exclusive key programs (Pyrran does) then there is a very high confidence in the security, safety, and exclusivity of the keys.
